Fall into Excellent Oral Care with Cabrillo Family Dental

It’s almost that time again! Summer leaves, letting fall take its place. While the temperature and leaves will start to fall, this doesn’t mean your oral care program should. In fact, let this fall be your start to stellar oral health.

If you’re looking for the best place to start, the best dentist in Pacifica has pulled together a strategy for you and your family.

1. Create a List for Brushing and Flossing

We all have a busy schedule and sometimes we may skip brushing and forget about flossing atogether. Our Pacifica dental practice wanted to find a quick and easy strategy for patients to get in their twice-daily brushing and daily flossing.

One way the best dentist in Pacifica finds helpful is making a daily to-do list and crossing it off. While it may seem silly to write down to brush and floss, remember you are doing this for your health.

We find that when you write something down, give a reason and a time you have to do something by, you are more motivated to do it. After brushing and flossing, you cross it off the list and feel awesome for getting something done and having clean teeth.

After a while, you will start to develop a healthy pattern of brushing and flossing. It will become second nature.

2. Cut the Junk Food

Simple, but in practice, seems impossible. It tastes so good, and you say need at least a soda a day to function.

At our dental practice in Pacifica, we find the best way to get people to stop eating junk food is explaining why it’s called junk. When your body metabolizes food, it breaks down the foods and drinks you consume to substances it can use and cannot use. Junk food lacks the proper nutrition required for your body’s health.

On top of it, junk food is highly acidic and create a bacteria-loving environment in your mouth. This can lead to plaque, tooth decay and gingivitis.

Why eat something where the risk outweighs the limited luxury of taste?

3. Gingivitis

Recently our Pacifica dental practice wrote about why there’s pink in the sink after you floss. While it may seem like you’re cutting your gums, it’s more likely that you are experiencing the symptoms of gingivitis. Gingivitis is a beginning sign of gum disease. Luckily, it is reversible if you brush and floss regularly.

4. Use ADA-Approved Mouthwash

Mouthwashes can be a great addition to your oral care regimen. We wrote about what it is and what it does. We mentioned the most important information behind it is considering the ingredients in it. Always use an ADA-approved mouthwash and see if you can find one that suits your tastes.

If it tastes good, you’re more inclined to do it again.

5. Be Curious

Last week, we tackled the whole oil pulling debate. The reason we did this was due to our patients asking about it as an alternative to the burn of mouthwash.

This curiosity inspired us to provide information to suit our patient’s health. But it’s important to remember that the field of dentistry is not complete. There is still room for more research and studies. And if you happen to be the one who can find a dental health regimen that is somehow more effective than brushing and flossing, you would be a hero to many.
